As a follow up to the disco theme for the MAG dance, let’s talk about the 70’s! Have you ever wondered what the 70’s were like? You know, the disco, Richard Nixon, and first Earth Day?

Well, to start off, disco was born on Valentine’s Day in 1970. That is how Saturday Night Live came to be and how we all imagine the Afros, groovy music, and funky outfits. The top four groovy tunes in 1970 were:

  • Layla- Derek and the Dominos
  • Bridge Over Troubled Water- Simon and Garfunkel
  • Let It Be- The Beatles
  • Your Song- Elton John

What about that slang that we use every day? Ever wondered what they said back in 1970? Well, then they said:

  • “Catch you on the flip side!”
  • “Do me a solid”
  • “Boogie down”
  • “Psyche”
  • “Brick house”
  • “Stop dipping in my Kool-Aid”
  • “What a fry”
  • “The man”
  • “Spaz”
  • “Cool beans”

Some of these sayings are some that we still say today! Which ones are your fave? I bet we all wish we could go back to that time period to experience these groovy slang expressions and songs.
