The team has started their 2018-2019 year off as strong as ever, traveling to St. George to compete in the Fernley Invitational on November 2 and November 3.

This tournament included 20 schools from across the state. The men’s team took third place overall and the men and women combined placed sixth overall.

That’s a strong start for a hopeful season.

Coming off their combined sixth place victory at the Fernley Invitational, the Spartans looked to defeat East High school. That’s just what they did. The men swept their relay races and the females took the 200 free relay. Murray defeated East by a combined score of 1,857 to 1,119.

Murray, in the 5A conference, hosted West Jordan High school in the 6A conference. Using the momentum from their victory against East High school, the Spartans look to gain another victory. On November 13, the two teams faced off.

Murray beat West Jordan from a combined score of 321 to 46. Several swimmers from freshmen to seniors also achieved personal best times.

Only 6 days later the Spartans had to face another 6A competitor. On November 20, Murray faced off against Kearns High School. The men’s team beat Kearns High by only two points. Murray 86 to Kearns 84.

Freshman standout Gavin Holmberg produced the most points at 15 for Murray. However, the women fell short of victory losing 61 to 109. They may have lost but they certainly fought hard.

The Spartans next meet will be Tuesday December 4 at the Murray Park Center. Make sure to come out and support your Spartan swimmers.
