A rainy Wednesday evening and the Spartans are getting in every last minute of practice before they’re underneath the Friday night lights. The field is crowded with different teams practicing their usual drills. However this week is different, at Murray High we are celebrating the homecoming and the start of a new year.

The boys are coming off of a fresh winning streak. We are now 3-1 going into this game. For homecoming this year we’re up against the Skyline Eagles, which won’t be an easy feat. Last year we played Skyline on their own turf, at their homecoming, and unfortunately we  lost, 62-41. “It was a good game on both teams, just a lot of scoring. We haven’t beat Skyline for quite a while, it’s our time to beat them,” says defensive back Luke Dalling (senior).

Saying there is bad blood between the schools is an understatement. Moses Taeoalii, a senior captain, recalls it quite bitterly, “Last year it was right after I tore my ACL and during that game they said they really needed me, I just want to get back at them [Skyline].”

Due to it being the homecoming game there is a certain energy at the practices. Teammates are saying to just have fun with it and treat it like any other game. The whole team has the utmost confidence in each other that they will take home this win. If you ask any of the players, they will say without hesitation that the win is theirs.

The football players love the support from the student body. Taylor Litson (senior), running back, says that he loves the student section and that every supporter helps. It’s never a distraction to the players and they love seeing the support from the community and the students.

Murray is coming in full force, and with good reason! Murray deserves to take home this win. Come see the boys play this Friday night, September 18th under the Spartan lights. This isn’t a game you’ll want to miss!
